What is a CPA?
A Certified Public Accountant has passed the state board exams and met the educational and experience requirements necessary to be issued a license to practice public accounting by the California Board of Accountancy. A CPA is licensed to prepare federal and state tax returns, represent clients before the IRS and state taxing authorities, and perform accounting services according to standards set by the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants.
CPAs also must meet continuing education requirements in order to maintain their license to practice public accounting. You may check the status of a CPA’s license here: California Board of Accountancy License Lookup.
